Scott Willoughby ’89, senior vice president of performance excellence at Northrop Grumman's space systems sector, reflected on the journey to develop, launch, and deploy the James Webb Telescope. He also shared some of the groundbreaking results seen since it has been in orbit.
Willoughby was joined by Terry Hart ’68, a former NASA astronaut and professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at Lehigh University, and Joshua Pepper, an astronomer and associate professor.
Pepper, currently on a three-year leave from Lehigh to work as a program scientist in the Astrophysics Division at the NASA Science Mission Directorate, gave a presentation entitled “NASA's Next Great Observatories” and discussed the plans for the next flagship NASA telescopes after Webb.
