Students, industry experts, and scholars came together at the Data X Symposium, March 31-April 1, 2016, to explore how the proliferation of data is transforming discovery in our economy, our culture, and our society. The two-day event spanned the Asa Packer Campus and the Mountaintop Campus and kicked off with a reception and LehighHacks, a 24-hour, high-energy hackathon. During LehighHacks, students came together, formed teams around a problem or idea, and collaboratively used technology and data to create a unique solution (websites, mobile apps, Internet of Things (IoT) innovations, etc.) from scratch. On Friday, April 1, the symposium hosted keynote speaker Gary Zenkel, President, NBC Olympics, and President of Operations & Strategy, NBC Sports Group. Late morning and afternoon panel sessions featured industry experts and Lehigh faculty working in digital media, computing, and consumer analytics, and the student hackathon teams demoed their ideas to a panel of judges. The event closed with a reception and the announcement of the LehighHacks winners. Photography by Christa Neu and Chester Toye '17.
