Every year, to kick off the start of Rivalry week, the American Society of Civil Engineers uses a 5 million-pound Baldwin Universal Testing Machine and a Lehigh-branded beam to crush a beam that says “Lafayette” on it.

This tradition is a time for the students and faculty to come together to watch Lafayette get crushed -- and one of the few opportunities undergraduate students have to see this machine in operation.
